The closest international airport to Delaware is just a few short miles away. Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is northeast of the state border with Pennsylvania, making it easy for any visitors from overseas to reach us. This airport sees arrivals from across the US as well as from around the world, making it a great hub for anyone wishing to visit.

Catering only for domestic routes, Wilmington Airport (ILG) is a common entrance into the state of Delaware and is often used by President Joe Biden. From here, you can travel south on US-13 S on your journey towards Lewes via DART buses.

Ferry in Delware

For our visitors traveling from or through New Jersey to reach us, there is the super convenient Cape May-Lewes Ferry. This operates all year round, giving you an easy way to get over to our historic town. You’ll disembark at the Lewes Ferry Terminal on the coast, just a short walk – or an even shorter drive – away from The Beacon Inn. You can find more information on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry website here.

Traveling by road

There are a number of different road routes you can use to get into the state of Delaware. From the west, the US-50 E takes you from Maryland, over the Chesapeake Bay, and into DE. From the north, you can enter the state over the Delaware River from New Jersey via the US-40 W. Several routes will bring you into DE from Pennsylvania, including the US-202 S and I-95 S.

For those who don’t drive, Greyhound buses run from all of the major surrounding cities into Wilmington and Dover, DE. From these locations, DART buses can be taken to more local areas such as Rehoboth Beach and Lewes.

Seasonal Travel

We recommend that when you’re planning your travel to Lewes – or anywhere in Delaware – you check for any seasonal restrictions to transport options, as some services may not be available in the off-season.
