Thanks to Maggie Lingo and The Beacon Inn, Pilates in Lewes is saved!
When disaster struck, this beloved Pilates studio had the right balance of community support and available space to recover quickly!
On Friday, January 12, 2024, a devastating fire hit the Dave Marshall Tennis & Fitness facility in Lewes Beach, Delaware. Luckily, Right Balance Studios, the Pilates studio behind the facility, was virtually unaffected by the blaze.
Immediately, Carin Langen, the owner of Right Balance Studios, knew she needed to find another space so that the community members of the Plantations and Dave Marshall Tennis & Fitness would still have a place to gather as the destroyed clubhouse was rebuilt.
The strong community that Carin and her staff have built jumped right into action. Within hours, Right Balance Pilates found a new and fairly unlikely home thanks to long-time member Carrie Lingo of the Carrie Lingo Team, who reached out to her sister, Maggie Lingo, who runs The Beacon Inn.
When Carrie heard Right Balance Studios was in need, she immediately called Maggie to discuss how they could help. The Beacon Inn was the perfect temporary solution! Located just minutes from Lewes Beach, the popular space is usually bustling with summer tourists, but it’s less busy in the winter months.
As soon as Maggie heard the news, she knew she had to help. “I thought to myself, we have this amazing space right in the heart of Lewes. Why not offer it to Carin and Right Balance when we aren’t using it? The studio and the staff have done so much for so many of us in this community, it only felt right to support them in their time of need.”
And support is exactly what happened! The fire happened on Friday. Maggie and Carin met Saturday morning to discuss options, and they were up and running in the Beacon by Monday.
Of course, the move didn’t happen without some added excitement. “We moved in the middle of a snowstorm. My son thought it was so funny to drive down Route 1 with reformers in the bed of his truck while the snow was falling. Hundreds of days without a snowstorm, and suddenly, we have one in the middle of this move!”
All laughing aside, Carin is so thankful for the support that Carrie, Maggie, and the community have shown her and the rest of the staff at Right Balance Studios. “We knew we had a powerful community here, but I’m still so amazed and grateful at how quickly everyone jumped in to help us. Thanks to Maggie and Carrie, Pilates in Lewes lives to see another day!”
