Best Places To Visit in Lewes During Summer 2024
With summer approaching at a rapid pace, it’s time to start making your plans to get away and enjoy the sunshine right here in Lewes, Delaware. The perfect place for families, friends, and couples, we have a variety of beautiful scenery, places to eat, activities to try, and history to uncover.
What better time than now to reserve your room at The Beacon Inn? We’ve created a guide to the best places to visit in Lewes during summer this year, and you can take it all in from our comfortable and well-appointed rooms. Take a look at some of our key recommendations for things to see and do here in 2024.
Stroll our sandy beaches
Whether you’re taking a quick break or looking for somewhere peaceful to vacation, there’s no better place to begin than at the beach. Take a dip in the sparkling, refreshing Atlantic Ocean or simply sink your feet in the warm sand. We’ve got the fantastic Lewes Beach just a short walk down the road from us or you can explore the beaches around Cape Henlopen State Park (see our section on this area further down!).
Beat the heat with the best ice cream
No summer vacation is complete without indulging in an ice cream or two. Thankfully, you’ve got plenty of options close to our location in Lewes. You can head around the corner to King’s Homemade Ice Cream on 2nd Street or take a drive to the hugely popular Hopkins Farm Creamery out on Dairy Farm Road — just two of our recommendations.
Hop on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry for a different view
Capture views of Lewes and our charming coastline with a journey over to Cape May and back on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. You’ll not only get beautiful, scenic views of the bay, but you can also take a day trip to the vibrant region of Cape May. It’s one of the best ways to experience these waterways.
Cast your line and land a catch
As something of a haven for anglers, you can catch flounder, striped bass, rainbow trout, and more here in Lewes. Last month we published our quick guide to fishing in Delaware, so be sure to check it out and plan your next fishing trip here with us. Lewes and the surrounding areas are ideal for both seasoned pros and fishing novices alike.
Step back in time in our historic Lewes district
One of the things we’re best known for in Lewes is our rich history. You can take a walk back in time with a visit to the historic district, where you’ll find beautifully preserved colonial architecture to admire. Stop in at the Zwaanendael Museum to find out more about the history of the area and the importance of the location to the first settlers. There are also a variety of charming boutiques to do some shopping in if you prefer some retail therapy.
Explore the bike trails in Cape Henlopen State Park
Close by to Lewes Beach, you’ll find the beautiful Cape Henlopen State Park. A picturesque park that boasts a variety of wildlife, scenic bike trails, and more beaches to explore, it makes for a great day out. Go birdwatching, find the World War II Fort Miles, or take to the water and try a little paddleboarding and kayaking. It’s completely up to you how you spend your day, but we definitely recommend taking a leisurely cycle along the route that joins up with the Delawonder bike trail.
Take some time to relax and rejuvenate in our wonderful corner of Delaware this summer — there’s something for the whole family! And don’t forget to reserve your room right here at The Beacon Inn, where you can get a comfortable night’s rest, make use of our swimming pool and sun deck, and enjoy your own private balcony. If you have any questions or need recommendations during your stay, our team will be more than happy to help.
